Frankie Miller's fame, such as it is, derives from his 1978 hit "Darlin', combined with songwriting credits for artists as diverse as Bob Seger and Bonnie Tyler. Long Way Home illustrates the duality of the music inside, as well as Miller's relative distinction: his hoarse voice is his most profound means of communication. Album of previously unreleased material recorded in the 90's. Guests include Joe Walsh.

Like Dave Edmunds, guitarist/pianist/vocalist Mickey Jupp was a champion of traditional rock & roll during the late '70s, a time when it had been all but discarded. Unlike Edmunds, Jupp wrote the majority of his own material, which updated '50s rock & roll with a tongue-in-cheek irony.

Best of Ace is a smartly assembled, fourteen-track collection which draws from each of the band's albums. Ace is best remembered for the ultra-slick "How Long," but little of the collection bears resemblance to that hit. Instead, they're shown doing what they did best (and more often) – playing laidback, rootsy pub-rock.

Five-A-Side, Ace's debut album, is notable for introducing the world to the soulful singing talent of Paul Carrack, especially on the hit "How Long," which went to number one on some charts in 1975.

The Stooges' first album was produced by a classically trained composer; their second was supervised by the former keyboard player with the Kingsmen, and if that didn't make all the difference, it at least indicates why Fun House was a step in the right direction. Producer Don Gallucci took the approach that the Stooges were a powerhouse live band, and their best bet was to recreate the band's live set with as little fuss as possible. As a result, the production on Fun House bears some resemblance to the Kingsmen's version of "Louie Louie" – the sound is smeary and bleeds all over the place, but it packs the low-tech wallop of a concert pumped through a big PA, bursting with energy and immediacy…

While the Stooges had a few obvious points of influence – the swagger of the early Rolling Stones, the horny pound of the Troggs, the fuzztone sneer of a thousand teenage garage bands, and the Velvet Underground's experimental eagerness to leap into the void – they didn't really sound like anyone else around when their first album hit the streets in 1969…

Theoretically, Dr. Feelgood could have produced a fine multi-disc box set, yet the four-disc Looking Back isn't it. Although it contains the group's very best songs, including large portions of Down by the Jetty and Malpractice, it is cluttered with mediocre latter-day material, and the entire final disc is devoted to Lee Brilleaux discussing his cancer. Although his testimonial is moving, it would have been better heard on a separate disc, not as part of a comprehensive retrospective. Then again, Looking Back is filled with so many songs that only serious fans, the kind that would want an interview disc, will find it necessary. For most fans, even those with a fairly deep interest in the band, the comprehensive double-disc Twenty Five Years of Dr. Feelgood is a more logical choice.

Rockpile were a British rock and roll group of the late 1970s and early 1980s, noted for their strong pub rock, rockabilly and power pop influences, and as a foundational influence on new wave. Rockpile recorded four studio albums, though only one (Seconds of Pleasure) was released under the Rockpile banner. Best of Mano Negra is a compilation album by Mano Negra, released in 1998. It included their greatest hits from 1988 to 1994. Mano Negra (complete Spanish name: La Mano Negra, sometimes nicknamed La Mano in France) was a music group active from 1987 to 1995 and fronted by Manu Chao. The group was founded in Paris by Chao, his brother (Antoine) and cousin (Santiago), all born of Spanish parents with partly Cuban roots. Their songs were mostly in Spanish, English and French, often switching from one language to the other in the same song or in the middle of a sentence or title (e.g. "Puta's Fever"). They also had a hit song in Arabic. They are considered pioneers of world fusion. Mano Negra incorporated an impressive array of musical styles: punk rock, flamenco, ska, salsa, French chanson, hip hop, raï, rockabilly, reggae and African rhythms.

This overview of soulful Scottish singer/songwriter Frankie Miller features his three big hits "Darlin", "Be Good to Yourself", and "Caledonia" as well as key album cuts like "Highlife/Brickyard Blues" and "I Can't Change It." Miller never found the same amount of success overseas as he did in his native U.K., but his raspy brand of Rod Stewart, Tom Waits and Bob Seger-infused pub rock, blue-eyed soul, and R&B earned him a loyal following that will covet this fine collection of impassioned '70s goodness.

No Plans includes 'All For You' and 'HQ454 Monroe', two songs that Cold Chisel played on their record-breaking Light The Nitro Tour in 2011 and 11 previously unheard songs.

With their 1998 comeback disc, The Last Wave of Summer – their first album of new material since 1984's Twentieth Century – Aussie rock legends Cold Chisel proved that they still had "the stuff." A tad shy of the standard of their heyday albums of the '70s and '80s, Summer is still formidable rock & roll. As the band's first release in the CD age and, at just under an hour running time, LWOS was considerably longer than their previous studio albums. Hence the makeup is a little different. There is more down-tempo and lighter fare here, which shifts the feel from the usual short sharp-shock of a Chisel disc to a quite different type of listening experience. Less visceral; more cerebral. Also, this was an older, more mature Chisel – accomplished songsmiths and musicians with nothing left to prove.

The Winkies were probably six months late in cutting and releasing their debut album – six months, and one set of sessions. The news, earlier in 1974, that they were in the studio with Brian Eno was greeted with wild enthusiasm and anticipation; the collapse of those sessions, and Eno's replacement with Guy Stevens, somewhat less so. Far from the maverick icon which his posthumous reputation canonizes, Stevens' mid-1970s reputation owed more to his unreliability than his knob-twiddling skills, and it was no surprise whatsoever when The Winkies finally arrived, bearing more in common with the pre-fame Mott the Hoople (of course, Stevens' last major project) than the glorious glam pub hybrid which the band had hitherto nurtured. But time has done The Winkies considerably more favors than contemporary critics ever did. It does still sound like vintage Mott, but that's something to be celebrated now – imagine if Ian Hunter and Co. had not gone off with Bowie following 1971's madcap Brain Capers album, but if Ariel Bender had joined the group regardless…

This time out Scotsman Frankie Miller finds himself in Nashville playing with some of the finest sidemen that city has. But, despite the location, Frankie turns in another fine album of R&B material. Much of the material is original but the covers he chooses are interesting, including one from Australia's Jojo Zep. Also of note: 4 years later, The Bellamy Brothers hit the country chart with Frankie's composition "Forget About Me."
